new software version, new features! DataLion 2023.1 is here - this time with many new features from the areas of data visualization and automation:
- Conditional formatting in tables
- Automatic codebook and data set checks
- Simplified interface for data management in the project backend
- Stacked charts without csv codebook
- Account information in admin area
- Automated reporting: further development of Excel reports
- New configuration options in PPTX export
- Automatic data import from Dropbox and Google Drive
Conditional formatting in table charts
In table charts, conditional formatting of font and background colors can now be defined via the chart settings. Learn more about this topic here.
Create stacked diagrams with a few clicks
Stacked diagrams with multiple items were previously best created via the csv codebook. This can now also be done via the software interface - either directly on the dashboard in the frontend or for saving the question for use throughout the project in the online codebook in the project backend. Learn more by clicking here.
Automated reporting: one report for multiple access profiles
In DataLion, comprehensive Excel reports can be predefined independently of the dashboards and made available to users for download. With each data update, the reports can be generated automatically and the finished report can be exported with one click. The Excel reports could previously be defined in the access profile. New is the possibility to define the reports also on project level and to release them via the access profile. This allows several access profiles to access the same report. Reports from the access profile and from the project definition can also be made available in combination. Learn more here.
PPTX-Export - new configuration options
For the export to PPTX, a separate PPTX master can be stored in DataLion, into which the charts are exported. In the new DataLion version there is now the possibility to assign placeholders for chart headers and footers of multiple charts per pptx slide. Thus, multiple charts can be exported per pptx slide including the information from the chart header and source as well as case numbers from the footer. In addition, there is now also the option to specify which information from the dashboard (dashboard name, report name, project name) should be exported as the slide title. In addition, it is now also possible to assign multiple placeholders for slide titles and thus, for example, report titles and dashboard titles can be exported to the PPTX slides.
In addition, a start and end page can now also be included in the PPTX master.
Another new feature is that there is the possibility, requested by many, to define the font size of the charts in the PPTX export itself. Learn here in the section "More settings: Font size" how this works.

Bye bye debugging - codebook check and csv record check
Annoying errors in the codebook can now be easily detected by DataLion with one click - saving users valuable time. During codebook import, you can now have DataLion automatically check your codebook for formal errors, such as duplicate line IDs or use of variables that do not exist in the data set. Learn more about the Codebook here.
Also, DataLion now gives a warning during csv data import if there are formal errors in the data set, such as spaces or special characters in column headers. Learn more about the prerequisites of the data for import here.
Keep track of your DataLion: account information in the admin backend
In the admin backend there is now an Invoice & Account section. There you can find information about the license and the current user numbers as well as the user days per user type (admin/editor/viewer) and month.
Further development of polarity diagram: Define sort variable
In the polarity diagram, you can now not only set that the items are to be sorted, but also specify on the basis of which filter variable the sorting is to be performed.
Integration Data & Data Sources in the Project Backend
The Data and Data Sources tabs in the project backend have been integrated. Data management now runs completely via data sources. General settings for the data, such as the definition of missing values, can now be made in the Settings tab.
By the way: You can now get back to the frontend directly from the project backend via the "eye icon".
Simplification of data import: data import in sav format
Data can now be imported in sav format. If desired, DataLion automatically creates a codebook with the value labels from the data set. The codebook is entered directly into the system. The detour via the codebook creator is no longer necessary.
Automatic data import from Dropbox and Google Drive
Simply place your csv data file in your Drive and let DataLion import the data automatically. There is now the possibility to link your DataLion project to your Dropbox or Google Drive to have new data automatically imported into your DataLion project at any time. The data will be appended to the project's data table. Learn more about the setup for imports from Dropbox and Google Drive.
